Video-recording personal histories for future generations

Frequently Asked Questions

Elsie

Q: Couldn't I do this myself?

A: Yes!  It's not technically that difficult nowadays.  However we find that although people *could* do it themselves, they never quite get around to it.  With Moving Memories once you get the ball rolling we'll take care of the rest.

Q: I'm just an ordinary person.  What if I don't have anything interesting to say?

A: The subjects of video biographies almost always think that, and they are almost always mistaken!  Your stories of daily life, raising a family, facing challenges, etc. will be interesting both from a historical and a personal perspective.  One of the advantages of using a "stranger" for doing the interviews is that there are no preconceived notions, it's all brand new to the interviewer.

Q. What if I'm nervous in front of the camera?

A: The interviews are held in your own home, usually with you in your living room.  There are no hot lights or makeup or anything else to make it seem like a big production.  It's just you having a friendly conversation.

Q. What if I say something I regret?

A:  You have complete control over the final product.  If there is anything you don't like we'll take it out.

Q. Can my partner and I be interviewed together?

A: Of course!  Anything is possible.  The idea is to produce something that your decendants will cherish.  We've had people bring in their friends, show their artwork, etc.   It's your decision.

Q: Do you do weddings?

A: No we don't.  Our interest and specialty is helping people preserve their oral history.  It's more about the interviewing, and less about the photography.
